Mini-retreat: Living Meditation: Deepening & Integrating Practices

One day mini-retreat at the New York Open Center, 30th and Madison Ave., NY, NY
10am-5:30pm
NY Open Center Members: $125; Non-members: $145

Led by Lawrence Edwards, PhD, poet, author, mentor and teacher.

Living Meditation will take you into the rich meditative practices and teachings found at the most profound levels of the great spiritual traditions, where the ultimate state of non-dual awareness is all that exists.  In this one day retreat you will learn to deepen and integrate meditation into everyday life.  Meditation uplifts our work life, our home life, our health and all that we engage in. Meditation begins as a set of practices and then the transformative power of meditation processes becomes apparent as we shed old conditioned patterns of mind.  The transformative processes develop and ripen, opening the boundless domain of the state of Living Meditation, also known as sahaja samadhi, in which the waking, dream and deep sleep states are transformed.  In this retreat you will learn how to deepen your practices, further empower the transformative process of meditation and discover the state of radical freedom, the state of Living Meditation.  This is the state of the Living Presence that already exists within you as your true nature.  Some call this their Buddha nature, or their Christ nature, or their Divine Self, but whatever we call it, it is beyond words, beyond the mind, yet at the very heart of our Being.  Come to know your state of radical freedom, come to know the living presence of the One.

The retreat will include instruction for all levels of practitioners.  We will dive into meditation, chanting, mantra, contemplations and integrative

practices for bringing it all home. Discussions and Q&A time will help to further integrate the practices.

Weekend Retreat: Calm Abiding – Living in the Presence

Silent meditation retreat at the Wisdom House, Litchfield, Connecticut
Friday evening 6pm- Sunday noon
Led by Lawrence Edwards, PhD

THE RETREAT IS FULL AND REGISTRATION IS CLOSED.  THE NEXT RETREAT WILL BE MARCH 15-17, 2019 AT THE GARRISON INSTITUTE. REGISTRATION WILL OPEN IN NOVEMBER.

Program Fee: $225; accommodations are extra.
Registration is now open. Space is limited, please register early via the registration link below.

Profound meditation unfolds the direct experience of Living in the Presence, knowing the Infinite as your Self and keeping the company of the Divine through everyday life. During this retreat, through meditations, empowered mantras, chanting and teachings, you can learn to access what lies beyond the mind – the boundless love, power, joy, compassion and creativity of the One – your true Self – and discover how to live each day in its wise, loving Presence. The traditional means for Shaktipat Diksha are part of the retreat and facilitate awakening Kundalini, your innate power of Consciousness to directly know the Divine within.

We will be in silence during meals and breaks from Friday night through Sunday morning to support the mind entering a state of Calm Abiding, resting in the profound stillness that eases the mind and heals the body. The program will include time for Q&A and discussions about practices and experiences.

Whether you are a new or an experienced meditator this retreat can further empower your practice and bring you more fully into the living Presence, the direct experience of the Divine within. Regardless of what name we may like to use – Higher Power, God, Goddess, Buddha, Christ, Shiva, Kali, Friend, or Beloved – that Presence is within us and all we encounter. It is the inexhaustible source of wisdom, patience, kindness, strength and creativity. Living in the Presence, awake and aware, transforms the mind as it bathes in the light and power of the Infinite. By taking this retreat you give yourself the opportunity to move beyond the mind and all its constant doing, into the still depths of non-doing, into the heart of meditation, the state of pure Being. “Be still and know that I am.”

The 8th century poet Li Bai wrote:

The birds vanish into the sky
The last cloud drifts away
We sit together, the mountain and I
Until only the mountain remains.

In this retreat we will enter the timeless domain deep meditation. Thoughts vanish into the boundless sky of Awareness. Veils of ignorance drift away, leaving you in the magnificent Presence of the One. There you rest in calm abiding until only the Presence remains. This is the ancient way of yogis, sages, saints and mystics, secluded in monasteries, caves and hermitages. There they became absorbed in unspeakable states of ecstatic union. Now the world needs knowers of the One living in the world, carrying the power of love, wisdom, creativity and compassion into every aspect of life. Live in the Presence knowing and serving the highest. The soul’s journey, guided by the living Presence within, leads to extraordinary freedom and the full embrace of life.

This retreat has limited openings to facilitate optimum learning. Please register early. Retreats offered by Lawrence often fill up and registration is closed before the start of the retreat.

Ecstatic Union: The Way of Poet Saints and Mystics

Meditation retreat led by Lawrence Edwards, PhD at the Garrison Institute, Garrison, NY.

Every spiritual tradition has its poet saints and mystics who express the ecstatic, love-drenched state of unity consciousness in language and  that propels the mind back to its source, pure Being.  Dissolve the mind and its endless stream of chatter in the ocean of ecstatic Being through the inspired poetry of the great mystics of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism.  Through guided meditations, contemplations and chants we’ll dive into the boundless One that is the source of the many sublime expressions of unity consciousness we find in the writings of sages and bodhisattvas.  Infinite love and unbridled joy suffuse the experience of union with the Infinite. This weekend retreat will be a celebration of the living presence of the Divine within everyone, right here, right now.  We’ll use the power of mantra and meditation, as well as the inspired words of great masters, to leave the ordinary mind behind and rest in the immeasurable joy, love, compassion and equanimity of your true nature!  You are invited to bring your own favorite spiritual poem to share. Give yourself this weekend retreat to joyfully deepen your meditation practice and immersion in the Divine.

The retreat runs from Friday at 7pm until Sunday at noon.

The program fee is $230.  Garrison Institute adds their room and board fees on top of that at registration. They offer commuter, dorm, double and single accommodations.  Please click below for more information.
